A-Z Day 11

K is for Kiss.

What is in a kiss? A kiss can be as symbolic as it is intimate. It can signify friendship, respect, greeting, familiarity, sensuality, intimacy, romance, passion, sexual desire, sexual arousal, desire, and I'm sure there are more we could add.

In the bible Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. As Nelson lay dying on H.M.S. Victory, he is supposedly have uttered those famous words, 'Kiss me, Hardy.'

Kissing has been used by fighters as a physcological tool at the start of a fight or weigh-in, and a sign of respect at the end of a particularly arduous and evenly matched fight. Below is a small compilation video of such examples.

It would appear that some fighters are comfortable with their sexuality and do not find it an insult or intimidating, whereas others quite clearly can't tolerate or imagine anything worse than being kissed by an opponent.

An interesting 'experiment' took place back in March 2014, twenty strangers were asked to take part in the filming of a first kiss. This encompassed all sexualities. But the strange thing is, regardless of who is kissing whom, as the viewer, it is difficult not to empathise with the awkwardness of that first moment - hell, it certainly trasnported me back in time to those fumbling, cheek-blushing, nose-bumping moments leading up to the eventual 'first kiss'. Watch the video and see what you think.

As a closing note on the kiss, and the act of kissing:apparently it could have beneficial effects on one's health, helping to reduce perceived stress, strengthen bonds between marital partners and aid in the lowering of cholesterol levels. And apparently a passionate kiss generally burns up 2-3 calories per minute. Hmmm? Kissing or treadmill? Decisions, decisions?

I think kisses among people who care are great. On the same token, I hope someone is feeling good and positive in their life even if they do not have a romantic partner to kiss. Sometimes an amazing conversation can be just as fulfilling.

True - intellectual discourse can be almost as satisfying, sometimes moreso. But it does depend on the nature of the conversation and the parties involved.

Thank you so much for stopping by :)

I agree, that video had elements both interesting and obviously awkward. I'm just wondering how the pairing up was decided? Did the folks specify as to what 'type' of person they would and would not kiss?

Hope this year's A-Z isn't stressing you out too much Jeremy - take care my friend :)
