Artist: Matthew Stewart - Day 1 of A-Z

A while ago I began highlighting starter blogs on what is now known as the 'Blog Spot', and I must say, with a smile, it has proven to be quite successful in helping fledgling bloggers get into the swing of the whole blogging thing by means of increasing traffic their way and giving them that gentle nudge into the big wide world that we come to know as the blogoverse. This also ties in nicely with my start in the 'A to Z Blogging Challenge' for April.

So now, I thought it would be nice to share some of the artists I follow in a section called 'Art Spot'. These artists are well established, many professional, often freelance, and work across a plethora of mediums. You will have seen many of their works in films, TV, computer  games, card games, adverts, posters, art exhibitions, and not realised who they were.

These are people I really do admire. The works they produce, at times, leave me awe struck. As a child I was once considered 'very good' at art, but like most, I let that skill/talent slip away from me - don't get me wrong, I can draw a pretty mean matchstick man. But these people are truly gifted and are the kind of artist I would choose to be given my time all over again.

I hope to introduce some of you to these wonderful artists for the first time in the hope it will open up a new avenue of art appreciation, and for others who are familiar with such works, a broader range of works to admire (and in some cases, drool) and enjoy. My other hope is that this topic will become a favourite for visitors to the hearth.

To kick off the start of the 'Art Spot', I have chosen Matthew Stewart, an artist whose eye for detail and colour sends shivers through my visual cortex. You can read his bio here and go to his blog site of amazing work by clicking on his site link below, and an interview with the artist himself by Gathering Magic.com where he talks about his work illustrating the famous Magic: The Gathering card game. Enjoy :)

Thank you, Charlie - welcome to the hearth. I hope you enjoy your stay. So where is your blog? I really can't get the swing of Google+... the damn thing makes me feel old and out of touch with tech... grrr!

Wow, what marvelously detailed work! That "Gruesome Deformity" one really grabbed my attention, but my fave was the werewolf. (But then, it would be, wouldn't it?) ;-)

True, but then again, you do have really, really good taste. I mean, why else would you be here? ;)

Stopped by via the A to Z challenge - wonderful artwork. My husband used to play Magic, and I'm part of an RPG company so I really appreciate the level of work that goes into such creations.

Hi, Terri - glad you enjoyed that link. I'll be posting more links to other artists as time goes on, so keep an eye on things :)

Took a stroll over to your sites - very interesting stuff, so I'm bookmarking them to return to and read more.

Kind regards

Mark

Nice! I'm pretty sure I have one or two of his cards in my MTG collection. Haven't played for years, but just can't let the collection go...

After watching this I began thinking, 'hmm, wouldn't mind starting a collection myself', that is until I saw the price of them!
